TIA GOES TO JAPAN II: Tia Umeko was born in the suburbs of Chicago, and she always knew that her parents — ethically Japanese and Latvian — had parents who were not from the United States.

She pleaded with her grandparents to take her to Japan, because she was so curious to see where they had come from, and found a part of herself, too.

Tia Umeko pleased with her Japanese grandparents to go to Japan to learn more about where they came from. She discovered a country that wasn't just on TV, where she felt connected and comfortable. Not only did she travel to ancient temples and tourist sites in Tokyo, but she stayed in her great-grandmother's umeboshi plum farm. She met the spirits of her ancestors and learned something of their traditions and culture. Tia's trip to Japan was so inspiring, that her grandfather spearheaded this book outlining her thoughts as they traveled.
